Top-Down Synthesis for Library Learning

This paper introduces corpus-guided top-down synthesis as a mechanism for synthesizing library functions that capture common functionality from corpus of programs in domain specific language (DSL). The algorithm builds abstractions directly initial DSL primitives, using syntactic pattern matching intermediate to intelligently prune the search space and guide towards maximally shared structures corpus. We present an implementation approach tool called Stitch evaluate it against state-of-the-art deductive learning DreamCoder. Our evaluation shows is 3-4 orders magnitude faster uses 2 less memory while maintaining comparable or better quality (as measured by compressivity). also demonstrate Stitch’s scalability on corpora containing hundreds complex are intractable with prior approaches show empirically robust terminating procedure early—further allowing scale challenging datasets means early stopping.
